The Art & Science of Hypnosis
Hypnotherapy is a powerful tool for personal transformation and professional development. However, it's important to understand what it is and what it isn't.
First, let's talk about what hypnosis is not. Contrary to popular belief, hypnosis is not a form of mind control, and you will not lose consciousness or surrender your free will while under hypnosis. You're not sleeping or in a blackout. You will be conscious throughout the whole process.
Therapeutic hypnotherapy is not what the movies portray of stage hypnosis. You will not be made to do things that you don’t want to do, and it is not a truth serum to force you to reveal things you don’t want to talk about. You always have control over your experience, and you will never do anything that goes against your values or beliefs. You will be fully aware and present during the session, and you will be able to hear and respond to my voice. Again, you are in control.
So, what is hypnosis? Hypnosis is a natural state of mind that we experience every day. It’s like daydreaming, being absorbed in a good book or movie or that time right before bed when we feel deeply relaxed and drowsy. If you've driven on the highway and suddenly realized you missed your exit or you found yourself right in front of your garage and you don't remember getting there, then you were in a hypnotic state.
Hypnosis is where the mind enters the theta state when our brainwaves are between 4 - 8hz. It's the state where children, ages 1-7, mostly mentally reside. A state of immense creativity and imagination. It's often called the healing state.
Through hypnosis, in theta, we open the door between the conscious and subconscious minds. In the theta state, the brain waves slow down, allowing the conscious 10% of the mind to relax and the subconscious 90% of the mind to become more accessible. This makes it easier for the neocortex and limbic system to communicate and work together.
The neocortex is responsible for conscious linear thinking, logical analysis and decision-making, while the limbic system controls emotions, beliefs, habits, instincts and all memories. In turn, through this open door, we create through hypnosis, it will help you better problem solve and make positive changes at a deep level. By accessing your subconscious mind during hypnosis, we can help you identify and change any negative patterns or beliefs that may be holding you back.
During hypnosis, we induce a calm and peaceful state of focused awareness and deep relaxation to access your subconscious mind. Your conscious mind takes a step back and allows your subconscious to take over. You will continue to think thoughts, and we will have a conversation with your eyes closed. In turn, you will gain astonishing insights and greater perspective on yourself, your needs and your innate wisdom on how to overcome challenges.
Hypnosis is something that has changed my life in every turn. I've utilized the modality for everything from handling sudden driving anxiety to my fear of hospitals for childbirth to coming up with new business ventures to getting over break ups. I've used the modality of hypnotherapy for everything - because it works and works quickly. That's why it's a very popular healing modality used by athletes and entertainers to enhance their performance and achieve their goals efficiently.
Hypnotherapy has been scientifically proven to be an effective form of therapy for a variety of issues, including anxiety, depression, phobias, addiction, IBS, pain management, weight loss and on and on. In fact, a meta-analysis of 18 studies found that hypnotherapy was more effective than traditional therapy for treating anxiety, especially when combined with cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). Researchers determined that 600 sessions of talk therapy (about 11 years if you were going once a week) brought a 38% improvement, while six sessions of clinical hypnotherapy brought a 93% improvement for similar issues. Another study found that hypnotherapy was as effective as nicotine patches in helping people to quit smoking.
As your hypnotherapist, my goal is to help you achieve your desired outcomes whatever they may be...as long as they are legal. ;)
I typically work in 3, 6 and 12 session packages with individuals looking to get unstuck from patterns, habits or behaviors that are no longer serving the highest and greatest good for themselves and others in their lives. Together, we develop personalized and creative hypnotic affirmations to carve new neural pathways, open the mind to previously unrecognized opportunities and cement greater confidence in all aspects of living.
